For fans of Games of Throne (GOT), the wait for the fantasy drama's much-anticipated prequel House of Dragon is still not yet over, but "a taste" in the drama series is now made available in the form of namesake wine range launched by Vintage Wine Estates and Warner Bros. Cabernet Sauvignon is undeniably the king of all varietals and takes the crown above any other grape. The prequel to Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon, is set to premiere its first episode on August 21st.

The wine is aged nine to 12 months in French oak barrels and is finished for three more months in ex-bourbon barrels. House of the Dragon wines are made available first in the US nationwide, beginning June 22, 2022, and cane be purchased online. The palate is medium bodied with silky textures and delicious bright red fruit that shows just a bit darker in profile than the nose. Ripening conditions were cool to mild without any heat spikes allowing for slow even development of flavours with bright acid retention.

Plus, look out for James’ first Wine to Dine column in the October issue of Scottish Field magazine– out soon. A multi-district South Australian blend sourced from premium grape growing regions including Wrattonbully, the Barossa, Coonawarra, Langhorne Creek and McLaren Vale. Rich in dark fruit with hints of leather and spice, the elegant structure of Cabernet Sauvignon combines with the brooding fruit depth of shiraz in a full-bodied balance of intensity and character.

Tasting Notes - It is enticing on the nose with lovely aromatics, including tart red cherry and cranberry, followed by subtle earthy and savory notes. The shiraz grape contributes a mid-palate fruit sweetness, with plush fruit weight, well balanced with structural oak and supportive tannins. Winemaker Notes - Gentle techniques in the cellar and imagination in the vineyard achieved a fruit-driven style. It was pressed during the last days of fermentation and matured in a combination of small French oak barrels and larger stainless steel tanks for eight months. The wine is a deep cherry red with juicy blackcurrant and red fruit notes with dark chocolate and plum on the finish.Consumer Products have partnered to launch a limited-edition wine which will be available in August, timed to the launch of House of the Dragon. The new show takes place about 200 years before the original series, so if you were serving Vintage Wine Estates’ GoT wines at your Night’s Watch party, sadly, you were behind the times. Ben Blake, Head of Marketing EMEA at Treasury Wine Estates, adds; “Wolf Blass was born from the spirit of its founder to never settle but soar above the rest.
